INTRO TO YOGA

If you are new to yoga or just joining our studio, welcome!

Please check back for the dates of our next course.

Our Intro to Yoga course is the perfect place to learn more about Yoga and a deep dive into it's meaning.

Week 1 – Start at the very beginning with Sally-Anne

You will start your journey with what is known as the joint freeing series or pawanmuktasana series.

This is taken at a gentle pace so we can really notice what each part of our body feels, which parts feel good, and which parts we need to look after during our practice.

We will give you a brief history of yoga as we know it and you will be introduced to the Yama’s and Niyama’s part of Patanjali’s 8 limbs of yoga, the path suggested for enlightenment.

Week 2 – Breath for Health with Mary

This week you will be introduced to the wonderful world of chakras (various focal points in the subtle body) and prana (life energy, similar to chi).

This class will be a beautiful mix of pranayama (yogic breathing), mantra, and philosophy, looking at how yoga helps keep a healthy mind as well as body. You will be shown a blend of breath and movement which is soothing to the soul and stretches the body and mind.

Week 3 – Go with the flow with Sara

You will be taken through the famous sun salutation, a group of movements that flow together to make up an integral part of any flow class (including Ashtanga and Vinyasa).

This dynamic practice synchronizes breath and movement to produce an internal heat designed to purify the body.

Then we will share more knowledge of the rest of Patanjali’s 8 limbs of yoga.

Week 4 – Making it whole with Angela

On your final week, we will bring the last three weeks together in a session created to ensure you are ready to attend our regular classes.

From helping you set up your yoga mat and equipment before you start, to beginning relaxation, through to the pose part of a regular class (including some sun salutations) ending with a final relaxation, and packing away at the end.

We hope this final session will really inspire you to join us in our regular classes/workshops.
